The Department for BioMedical Research provides a wide range of core facilities tailored to support researchers from the Clinic and the University of Bern. Among them, the Translational Organoid Resource (TOR) is committed to streamlining the accessibility, creation, storage, and application of organoids and primary cells sourced from patients and model organisms. Within the domain of cancer research, TOR has dedicated efforts to producing and examining organoids from various cancer types such as pancreatic, bladder, prostate, colon, and more, with the intent of employing these as preclinical models across diverse experimental scenarios.



Biology laboratory technician

Your tasks

  • Support laboratory staff by maintaining glassware, logs, and record books; troubleshooting and resolving problems and helping with special projects
  • Keep laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders and verifying receipt.
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.
  • Patient derived organoid generation, characterization and biobanking
  • Blood processing for DNA and PBMC isolation
  • PDO (Patient Derived Organoids) drug screenings
  • Histopatholoogical analysis (IHC, H&E, IF) of tissue and PDOs
  • DNA and RNA isolation from tissue and PDOSs

Your profile

  • Completed training as a laboratory technician with basic training in biology or medicine (Master of Science, or Bachelor of Science no PhD)
  • Language skills: English fluent or native (German, French, Italian optional)
  • Familiarity with laboratory environment
  • Excellent knowledge of general cell culture procedures
  • Experience in 3D culture and patient derived organoids (knowledge of iPSC derived organoids and reprogramming protocols is desirable but not a requirement).
  • Basic knowledge of Molecular Biology techniques (Nucleic Acid extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR, etc)
  • Basic knowledge of Microscopy and Histology techniques (FFPE, Cryosection, H&E, IF and IHC, etc)
  • Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, GraphPad etc) and skills in lab information systems is desirable
