The Burgdorf Regional Prison is the most modern prison in the Canton of Bern and stands for a secure, structured, and responsible execution of various types of detention. With around 160 inmates and 60 employees, we ensure an orderly operation and high security standards daily. We are guided by the motto: "Security today and tomorrow. Due to retirement, we are seeking from 1 October 2026 or by arrangement
a Social Work Specialist.
You will accompany and advise inmates (EP) during their detention, shape their detention processes, and work closely with various specialist offices and partners.

Your tasks

  • In this role, you ensure professional advice to inmates according to the standards of statutory social work and guarantee high-quality reporting to referrers, courts, and other partners. You create, accompany, and evaluate individual detention plans.
  • You ensure legally correct management of inmate accounts including subsidiary cost bearers and coordinate release management.
  • You work interdisciplinarily with the involved specialist offices and contribute to professional and effective detention work.

Your profile

  • You hold a federal diploma, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work and bring 3 to 4 years of professional experience in this field, preferably with comparable clientele. Further training in justice-specific areas is an advantage.
  • You have very good German and French language skills, both spoken and written. Additional language skills are welcome.
  • You convince with strong communication skills, empathy, intercultural competence, and teamwork ability.
  • Your structured working style as well as your planning and organisational skills distinguish you. Your profile is rounded off by a sense of responsibility, resilience, assertiveness, and a strong service orientation.

About the Office for Justice Enforcement

The Office for Justice Enforcement (AJV) is responsible for open and closed penal and measure enforcement for adults and juveniles within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID) with around 1000 employees. To fulfil this task, the office has four concordat justice enforcement institutions, four regional prisons, the surveillance station at Inselspital, the detention control centre, as well as probation and enforcement services at its disposal.
