The Migration Office in the Canton of Solothurn is responsible for foreigner and asylum law matters as well as identity documents for Swiss nationals. For the Asylum and Return Division, we are seeking immediately or by arrangement at the Solothurn location a Head of Asylum Department, Deputy Head of Division, 80-100%.

Your responsibilities

• You bear overall responsibility for the Asylum Department, currently consisting of four caseworkers. This includes personnel management, steering and further development of process workflows, professional, financial and political responsibility for the department as well as its statistics and indicators.
• You also provide legal support and procedural management for the entire Asylum and Return Division and act as deputy to the Head of Division.
• A central part of your duties is the examination of applications for the granting of hardship permits in the asylum sector. In the area of the future of Status S, you will design, implement, and execute processes.
• In addition to administrative tasks, you conduct extensive fact-finding with other authorities, institutions or via embassies abroad, conduct interviews if necessary, and draft complex correspondence.
• You ensure legal hearing for those affected and issue rulings. Furthermore, you manage cases through all instances and prepare statements for the courts.
• Monitoring and understanding legal developments in migration law is also part of your tasks, as is responding to internal and external enquiries, political initiatives, consultations, and statements on ordinance and legislative changes.

Your profile

• In addition to a legal education (lic. iur./Master), you have leadership experience or wish to acquire it.
• You also have professional experience in the field of migration law or public administration.
• You are extremely resilient, a team player, and characterised by a careful, independent and service-oriented working style with the necessary sensitivity for socio-political contexts.
• Furthermore, you possess high social competence, a quick grasp, and the motivation to take responsibility in a sensitive and challenging area, initiate change and make a difference.
• We expect networked and solution-oriented thinking and the ability to cope well under time pressure.
• Your profile is rounded off by strong editorial skills, foreign language knowledge (second national language and English) as well as comprehensive digital competencies (Office, CMI, various federal applications).
