Job description
The Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI) of the University of Geneva is opening an application for the position of Assistant Professor with conditional tenure at the French Unit of the Department of Translation.
This is a 75% position including teaching within the bachelor, master and doctoral programmes in translation and multilingual communication at the FTI.
The successful candidate will be expected to supervise master’s theses and doctoral dissertations, conduct research nationally and internationally in translation studies, notably in specialised translation, or in multilingual communication (within the Department’s research areas), and secure external funding.
They may, in due course, be required to undertake management and organisational tasks related to their role within the Department of Translation and the Faculty.
Required qualifications and skills
- PhD (or equivalent degree) in translation studies (or a related field).
- Native or cultural language (language A): French.
- Working languages (languages B): English and at least one other FTI language, preferably Spanish.
- Experience teaching at university level, notably in translation studies and specialised translation (preferably literary translation or scientific and technical translation).
- Experience supervising research and a career consistent with the Department’s research areas. Scientific publications.
- Proven experience in translation (preferably literary translation or scientific and technical translation).
- Expertise in digital communication, translation and communication technologies, or specialised multilingual communication would be an asset.
- Knowledge of virtual training tools (desirable).

1 September 2027 or date to be agreed.

This 75% position involves teaching various courses in the FTI’s translation and multilingual communication programmes at the bachelor’s, master’s and postgraduate levels.
Duties include directing master’s theses and doctoral dissertations, developing research at a national and international level in translation studies with a focus on specialised translation, or in multilingual communication (within the Department’s areas of research), and securing external funding.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for managerial and organisational tasks related to his or her position in the Faculty’s Department of Translation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS :
- PhD (or degree deemed equivalent) in translation studies (or a related field).
- French native speaker (‘A’ language).
- Working (‘B’) languages: English and at least another language of the FTI, preferably Spanish.
- Teaching experience at university level, including in translation studies and specialised translation (preferably literary translation or scientific and technical translation).
- Research supervision experience. Research track record relevant to the Department’s areas of research. Scientific Publications.
- Proven experience as a translator (preferably literary translation or scientific and technical translation).
- Expertise in digital communication, translation and communication technologies or specialised multilingual communication is an asset.
- Knowledge of virtual training tools (desirable).
