About the job
Scientific Collaborator in Molecular Biology (80%)
Biological Analyses and Reference Laboratory | from 1 April 2027 or a date to be agreed, limited duration of 28 months
METAS – the Federal Institute of Metrology – is the reference institute in Switzerland for measurements and measuring instruments. To ensure that a litre is always a litre (for example when you fill up), METAS carries out calibrations, conformity assessments, and provides advice to industry, research, and administration. A trusted source, especially socially and politically, metrological accuracy is essential in many fields: road traffic, electricity billing, time dissemination, environmental and health measurements, etc. In short, at METAS, disciplines have been interacting and communicating since 1862.
Your new challenges

- Develop, optimise, and apply methods based on dPCR and NGS to detect and quantify biomolecular markers
- Plan, perform, and statistically evaluate method validations and interlaboratory comparisons, as well as present and publish scientific results
- Ensure quality, metrological traceability, and international comparability of genomic measurements and participate in the characterisation of reference materials and measurement procedures
- Supervise laboratory staff technically and ensure the operation of measurement stations, their quality, and development according to ISO/IEC 17025 standard
Your profile
- Master’s or doctoral degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, (laboratory) medicine, or a related field
- Proven knowledge of molecular biology analysis techniques, notably digital PCR and high-throughput sequencing (including bioinformatics), focused on molecular tumour diagnostics
- Experience in developing, validating, and quality assuring analytical methods, ideally in regulated or accredited environments
- Experience participating in or leading international research projects and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration with partners from research, industry, and regulatory fields
- Excellent English skills and good knowledge of German or French
