What you can contribute

• Coordinate the daily operations of the diagnostic laboratory in Bern as well as plan and optimise workflows and personnel deployment
• Independently perform, evaluate and document virological, molecular biological and serological analyses within routine and reference diagnostics
• Develop and validate new diagnostic methods and participate in applied research projects
• Ensure compliance with quality management and biosafety regulations and participate in audits
• Organise and supervise the training of apprentices as well as provide professional support to students and interns
• Support diagnostic work in the high-security laboratory in Mittelhäusern and provide emergency services as needed

What makes you unique

• Completed training as a laboratory technician EFZ specialising in biology and several years of professional experience
• Sound knowledge of virological, immunological and molecular biological working methods as well as experience in method development and validation
• Experience in an accredited laboratory environment (ISO/IEC 17025), ideally complemented by knowledge in vocational education
• Strong organisational skills, independent and responsible working style as well as high resilience and teamwork ability
• Strong communication skills and service orientation as well as good oral and written German and English skills

You take on a central coordination role in our diagnostic laboratory in Bern, combining demanding laboratory work with organisational responsibility. With your expertise and commitment, you contribute to reliable animal disease diagnostics, further develop diagnostic methods and promote the training of scientific junior staff.

The Institute of Virology and Immunology IVI works on innovative solutions to combat viral animal diseases and zoonoses and ensures diagnostics in crisis situations.

Animal diseases, newly emerging diseases in animals and infectious diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans (zoonoses) pose major challenges to society. We work interdisciplinarily in the spirit of One Health to sustainably contribute to the health of humans and animals.
