System Administrator / Engineer in the Chemical Environment (m/f/d)

Role:
In this versatile role, you will manage the local IT infrastructure of a research-oriented environment and directly support employees, researchers, and students with technical concerns. You combine classic 1st- and 2nd-level support with system administration, IT security, and smaller projects. At the same time, the position offers space to integrate modern topics such as cloud, automation, and AI more strongly into everyday work.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance and support of the local IT infrastructure including Windows, macOS, and Linux systems
Ensuring 1st- and 2nd-level support for servers, workstations, and institute-specific systems
Setup, monitoring, and management of backup and data protection solutions
Supporting users with deployed software solutions and IT-related questions
Advising on IT security and secure handling of IT systems
Participation in smaller IT projects and coordination with the central IT department
Automation and simplification of recurring support and administration tasks
Collaboration with research groups on technical questions regarding cloud infrastructures and AI
Support in developing IT solutions for scientific applications, for example in the field of computer-assisted chemistry
Qualifications:
Training in computer science, at least at EFZ level with a focus on platform development
Further education or studies in computer science advantageous, especially a university of applied sciences degree
Several years of experience as a system engineer / system administrator desirable
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, and Linux at client and server level
Interest in the individual requirements of scientific working groups
Strong customer and service orientation
Independent, structured, and solution-oriented working style
Responsible, communicative, and team-oriented personality
Very good German and English skills, both spoken and written, at least at C1 level
