Application Engineer
The Application Engineer is responsible for the management, integration, and continuous improvement of healthcare applications. The position ensures that systems such as PIS, RIS, PACS, and LIS run stably and securely and are aligned with operational and clinical needs. This role directly contributes to improving patient healthcare.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Application Management
- Management of critical healthcare applications
- Ensuring stability, performance, and usability of applications
- Analysis of 3rd-level incidents, coordination of problem resolution, and implementation of sustainable solutions
- Maintenance of application documentation, configurations, and operational procedures
Integration & System Development
- Translating operational and clinical requirements into practical system adjustments
- Integration of PIS, RIS, PACS, LIS, and other healthcare applications
- Support in testing, validation, and implementation of application changes
- Creation of training materials and user training
Stakeholder & Supplier Management
- Collaboration with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to capture needs and priorities
- Close cooperation with external suppliers and implementation partners
- Coordination of problem resolutions, change requests, and service improvements
- Ensuring clear communication between all stakeholders, especially users
Governance, Security & Quality
- Ensuring compliance with internal IT standards, security requirements, and operational controls
- Support in access management, data protection, and documentation requirements
- Contribution to risk, architecture, and quality assessments
Projects & Transformation
- Support of application-related projects, integrations, and system rollouts
- Contribution to digital and AI initiatives
- Support in post-merger integration activities
- Ensuring effective transition to operational business
Knowledge
- Solid technical understanding of applications, infrastructure, networks, and IT security
- Experience with healthcare information systems such as PIS, RIS, LIS, or PACS
- Ability to work in complex, international, and multi-stakeholder environments
- Strong analytical skills and solution orientation
- Clear communication with users, technical teams, and external suppliers
- Structured, responsible, and implementation-oriented working style
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating in cross-functional teams
- Strong service orientation and focus on practical business results
- English as well as German or French language skills required
Qualifications
- Degree or vocational training in computer science, business informatics, health informatics, or a related field
- Relevant experience in application engineering, application management, or health IT
- Experience in the Swiss healthcare sector is an advantage
- Solid understanding of healthcare processes, clinical workflows, or regulated environments is an advantage
- Certifications in IT service management, project management, security, or relevant technologies are desirable
Location
- Position in Fribourg or Zurich, with the possibility of partial home office
- Travel activity may be required, approx. 20%
