Pro Senectute Canton Lucerne actively promotes the independence and quality of life of senior citizens. As a non-profit organisation, we support people of AHV age and their relatives with central services in the areas of social counselling, fiduciary+taxes, home assistance, municipal/project advice, as well as education+sport.
The current postholder will assume the chairmanship of the executive board from March 2027. As part of this succession arrangement, we are looking for a committed leader for 1 February 2027 or by agreement in the roles of

Help shape the future of social counselling with us
Social counselling is one of the central services of Pro Senectute Canton Lucerne. Around 25 employees at the locations Lucerne, Emmen and Willisau as well as at the Dementia Information Centre advise and support older people and their relatives in various life situations.
As head of department, you bear the personnel, professional and financial responsibility for this important area. At the same time, you are part of our four-member executive board.
Your tasks
- You lead the social counselling department and develop it further together with the employees, taking into account social changes and the future needs of older people and their relatives.
- Direct management of the heads of the Emmen and Willisau counselling centres, the head of the Dementia Information Centre, and the Lucerne social counselling team
- You are responsible for the budget, resource planning, reporting and achievement of objectives of the department.
- You ensure a high professional quality and promote the development of employees.
- You take on your own social counselling to a limited extent, approx. 10%, thus remaining close to practice and the needs of our clientele.
- You maintain and develop cooperation with municipalities, authorities and specialist organisations and are responsible for service agreements and contracts.
- As a member of the executive board, you share responsibility for the overall organisation and contribute to strategic issues, organisational development and cross-departmental projects.
Your profile
- A degree in social work at tertiary level or a comparable qualification
- Further training in leadership, management or organisational development
- Several years of professional and leadership experience, preferably in the social, health or non-profit sector
- Enjoy leading people, developing employees and shaping change together
- The ability to combine professional, personnel and business management issues
- Strategic and networked thinking as well as a good understanding of organisational and financial contexts
- Convincing communication and a confident manner towards employees, authorities, municipalities and other partner organisations
- Interest in social and socio-political issues related to ageing
- An independent, responsible and solution-oriented way of working
