About the job
Workshop Manager with Industry Experience
Permanent position · 100 % · Start date by arrangement
Three quarters of your time you spend at the lift. One quarter you lead.
You still enjoy spending part of your time at the lift – on the other hand, you also enjoy leading a team of currently 3 workshop employees.
We say it honestly right from the start because it is the core of this position. We are a compact company with short decision-making paths. You remain a craftsman, yet it depends on you whether the workshop runs smoothly. Those who only want to screw will be unhappy with us. Those who only want to organise will be too.
Sportgarage Schweizer is owner-managed. You speak directly with him, and if something needs to be changed, it does not take months. Our customers like to come back because they know who is working on their car.
Key Data
Workplace: Mettmenstetten
Workload: 100 %, of which around 75 % productive and 25 % leadership
Start: By arrangement
Team: 6 employees, including 1 apprentice
Brands: stop+go partner (mainly VW Group vehicles)
What your week looks like
In the morning you distribute the work and know who is working on what. During the day you work alongside the team. In between, you clarify with customer reception what was promised and whether the timing works out. And you take the time for things that otherwise get overlooked: a conversation with the apprentice, feedback that nobody likes to give, an agreement that must be kept.
- Job scheduling, capacity, quality and deadlines
- Final inspection before a vehicle leaves (in coordination with customer service)
- Support with diagnoses and technical cases where others might get stuck
- Deployment planning, holidays, overtime and purchases within the agreed framework
- Induction, apprentice supervision, quarterly employee discussions
- Following up on what has been agreed – and reacting if it is not adhered to
Who fits with us
Professionally, you need the Swiss federal certificate of competence, diagnostic training or comparable experience. And you should be technically up to date: diagnosis, assistance systems, increasingly electromobility.
Equally important to us is the other side. You must be able to manage the balancing act of being both craftsman and boss at the same time. You should be able to intervene without having to do everything yourself. You should address a problem when it is small, rather than waiting until it can no longer be overlooked. And you should keep your head up when three vehicles are waiting, two customers are waiting and one person is off sick. That happens.
What we offer
- A mission statement that we all live by – together and for each other
- Own competencies, documented in writing
- Direct contact to the owner and other team members, without detours
- Daily exchange and open communication
- Quarterly performance reviews
- Fairness and equality for all
- Idea box
- Attractive base salary plus a performance-related component
- We talk about lived performance, not "market conformity"
- 5 weeks holiday
- 2 days training per year
- A company where you can see what you contribute
- A company that is currently developing – and where your opinion counts
When it does not fit
We prefer to say it now rather than in the third month. If you prefer to spend the whole day screwing and see leadership as an annoying additional task. If you dislike uncomfortable conversations so much that you prefer to let them slide. If you expect something to be done just because you said it once. If you are looking for a pure office job – this is not it.
Application
A CV is enough for us. Additionally, write a few lines about what you changed in your last workshop and what did not work out. That tells us more than a motivation letter.

We will get back to you within five working days. Even if it is a rejection.
If you are unsure whether it fits: just call. A phone call is faster than an application that benefits no one. We thank you for the general understanding that we only process applications that meet the requirements profile.
