The emergency team at Nyon Hospital welcomes patients 24/7 to meet their health needs in a demanding, dynamic, and interdisciplinary environment.

The department cares for more than 35,000 patients annually, about one third of whom are under 16 years old. These patients benefit from a dedicated paediatric pathway tailored to their needs.

GHOL also has a Mobile Emergency Service, the SMUR, which intervenes at home or in public spaces on mandate from the 144 Emergency Call Centre.

As part of the restructuring of the emergency department, we are looking for a head nurse for the adult emergency service, who will actively contribute to the development and implementation of the new organisation of the service.

Job description:

In your new role, you will be expected to:

• Ensure the quality, safety, and continuity of care, as well as the quality of reception and patient management within the service.
• Participate in defining and implementing the service strategy, in close collaboration with the co-chief medical officers of the service, within a medical-nursing governance framework.
• Initiate, lead, and support service projects, promoting continuous improvement of practices and contributing to the development of quality and performance of services.
• In collaboration with the clinical lead, supervise and support the nursing team, ensuring skills development, team cohesion, and quality of organisation. You will also jointly participate in the recruitment process.
• Develop effective collaboration and a culture of interdisciplinarity with the various services and partners of the institution, to facilitate smooth patient pathways and quality care.
• Ensure rigorous and responsible management of resources, including budgets related to personnel, training, and purchases, in line with institutional objectives.
• Define, share, and implement a clear vision for the service, mobilising teams around common goals and ensuring follow-up of necessary actions to achieve them.
• Work closely with the Nursing Directorate, as well as with other relevant departments and partners involved in emergency activities.

Required profile:

• Extensive clinical knowledge and proven experience in adult emergency care.
• At least 10 years of professional experience within a large public or private institution.
• Several years of confirmed experience in team management, ideally in a complex hospital environment.
• Very good knowledge of the Swiss healthcare system and its functioning.
• Recognised leadership, excellent communication skills, and strong interpersonal abilities.
• Excellent analytical, synthesis, and decision-making skills, combined with a well-developed sense of organisation and priority management.
• Excellent command of French, both spoken and written.
• Good proficiency in common IT tools, including MS Office, as well as software and applications specific to the hospital environment.
• Ability to make, justify, and take responsibility for decisions in complex situations, while promoting consultation and collaboration.
• Teamwork skills, collaborative spirit, open-mindedness, empathy, and creativity.
• Dynamic, committed, and enterprising personality, with the ability to unite teams and support change.

Education level:

• Bachelor of Science HES-SO in nursing required or equivalent recognised qualification by the Swiss Red Cross.
• Postgraduate specialisation in emergency care required.
• Proximity management training required.
• Additional training in project management and/or proven experience in change management required.
