You can contribute in this role

• Support the Army Command in managing long-term development and military strategic situation monitoring
• Develop strategic (decision-making) basis for further development of the Defence Group, especially in the areas of corporate development and strategic transformation
• Analyse data and insights from strategy controlling and risk management and translate them into actionable recommendations
• Coordinate and lead interdisciplinary working groups with experienced experts and stakeholders at office level
• Support and advise office directors and department heads in the development, coordination and implementation of their partial and specialist strategies

What makes you unique

• University or university of applied sciences degree or equivalent qualification
• Strong analytical and conceptual skills as well as networked and strategic thinking ability
• Experience in strategy work throughout the entire strategy cycle – from analysis and planning through alignment to implementation and controlling
• Ability to effectively navigate complex stakeholder landscapes with sometimes divergent interests
• Knowledge of internal federal processes and structures or training as a general staff or staff officer is an advantage
• Very good active knowledge of at least one second official language (B2) as well as English at least B2

In a nutshell

The Strategy and Governance Defence team shapes the long-term orientation of the Defence Group to strengthen Switzerland’s defence capability. We create strategic decision-making bases for the Army Command and support it in effectively managing the development of the group as a whole. Our aim is not only to develop strategy but to achieve organisational impact: through clear priorities, coherent governance and consistent implementation.
As part of the team, you work on central strategic issues at the interface of military and corporate development. You combine analytical depth with pragmatic implementation skills and independently advance topics. You coordinate cross-organisational projects, work with senior stakeholders and ensure the coherence of strategic initiatives. The Army Staff (A Staff) supports the Chief of the Army in leading the Defence Department area and is responsible for the overall military planning and development of the Swiss Army. Here, in accordance with political directives, the strategic foundations, force development and army and armament planning are developed, and tasks in the international security context are carried out. The leadership, management and coordination of all overarching cross-sectional areas (personnel, finance, real estate) also fall within the responsibility of the Army Staff.

The Swiss Army employs over 9,000 people in four military and around 200 civilian professions – at 110 locations throughout Switzerland. The next generation is also taken care of: the Swiss Army trains apprentices in over 30 professions.
