About the job
Roche Switzerland bridges the gap between pharmaceuticals and diagnostics. Important research and development functions are located here. For our long-standing client, Roche Diagnostics International AG in Rotkreuz, we are looking for a
Mechanical Design Engineer - Expert in Fluid Dynamics
Background:
The Liquid Handling Team in Rotkreuz is the expert team for liquid handling solutions of our diagnostic instruments. In collaboration with various project and product teams, we develop, maintain, and test the fluid systems, pipetting and dosing solutions for our diagnostic instruments including mechanics, electronics, real-time software, and algorithms for monitoring.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer - Expert in Fluid Dynamics, you help to assess and develop new technologies in the field of liquid handling for our IVD product development. You support the creation of cost-efficient and reliable fluidic concepts that meet system requirements.
With your expertise in fluid dynamics including experimental fluid dynamics and your ability to understand the overall system context, you contribute significantly to the success of our future diagnostics portfolio.
The perfect candidate is a qualified person with a background in mechanical engineering specialising in fluid dynamics. The ideal candidate brings 1 to 3 years of experience with CFD software and simulation techniques (including grid generation, simulation, and post-processing). Strong analytical skills, a structured approach to solving complex problems, and enthusiasm for experimental fluid dynamics are also required. Practical knowledge in developing test setups as well as programming skills in Python and C# complete the profile.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Concept Assessment and Parameter Determination: You analyse and assess new technologies and test them. Using your fluidic and physical expertise, you define various parameter settings and verify them to achieve the pipetting performance required for the specific application.
Liquid Handling Solution Development: You support the technical implementation of liquid handling solutions in the context of IVD product developments. Using your fluidic and physical expertise and computational fluid dynamics, you assist design engineers in developing components to optimise the design from a fluid technical perspective. You verify your simulations through experiments.
Feasibility Studies: You initiate, lead, and conduct feasibility studies in the field of liquid handling to meet technical requirements and minimise risks.
Test Stand Development: You define the necessary test stands required for feasibility studies and parameter determinations. In collaboration with mechanical and electronic design engineers and software engineers, you commission the test stands and programme the required software processes.
Must Haves:
Completed degree, Bachelor or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering specialising in Fluid Dynamics
1-3 years of experience with CFD software and techniques to simulate complex fluid flows, including grid generation, simulation, and post-processing
Strong analytical skills and an independent and structured approach to analysing and solving complex problems
Enjoyment of experimental fluid dynamics and hands-on work on test setups to confirm theories and verify the performance of the setups
Ability to programme complex test procedures in Python and C#, and to use modern AI tools such as Gemini or Claude Code to develop efficient solutions
You want to work in international, cross-functional teams and exchange ideas with other experts
Very good written and spoken communication skills in German and English.
What is offered:
A chance to contribute to one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies
A modern campus with plenty of green spaces and meeting areas
Central location with motorway access and train station nearby
Varied job profile
Home office possibility
Training opportunities through temptraining
