Oester Messtechnik GmbH is a young, dynamic company based in Thun. Our innovative team specialises in the collection and processing of spatial data as well as measurement data in the fields of landfill and biogas.

Methane emissions from landfills and biogas plants are not only safety-relevant but also have a significant impact on the climate. We locate and quantify these emissions, providing our customers with important decision-making bases – also with regard to climate protection.

Your tasks as Responsible ICT

Infrastructure and data sovereignty

You maintain our tools for daily use. Open-source software, self-hosted servers and sovereignty over our data are particularly important to us.

Devices and systems

You set up new devices, coordinate updates, backups and maintenance of our varied portfolio: UNIFI network, Mac laptops, Android tablets, Linux containers (based on Proxmox), Synology servers, PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases and Grafana for data visualisation as well as LTE routers or LoRa antennas.

Concept and innovation

You also support us in conceptual work and in building test environments to expand our measurement database (PostgreSQL) or in data storage and visualisation from IoT data sources.

Your role as Measurement Technician

The ICT responsibility and fieldwork complement each other ideally: you consciously switch between maintaining our systems in the office and collecting data on site – keeping your daily work varied and practical.

After an induction period, you will also independently plan and conduct measurement campaigns at old disposal sites, operational landfills and biogas plants. We usually work in pairs and support you in building your gas-specific knowledge. You will learn to handle the numerous measuring devices from scratch with us.

The measurement data collected in the field all have a spatial reference. They are recorded directly in the GIS (QField) and then further processed in the office with QGIS. This enables us to maintain centralised data storage and semi-automated evaluation.

Your profile

• You have completed a degree or solid basic training in the ICT field and have professional experience.
• You bring technical understanding for our infrastructure and are willing to familiarise yourself with our specific environment.
• GIS knowledge (QGIS) is an advantage but not a must.
• You write German fluently and are not afraid to communicate in French as well.
• You enjoy being outdoors – sometimes on a landfill or biogas plant – and see fieldwork as a meaningful balance to office work.
• You are willing to actively participate in fieldwork, data evaluation and reporting in our small team.
• You have a driving licence.
• You are motivated to dive into the world of landfill and biogas and take on responsibility.
