The Hindelbank Correctional Facility (JVA) is the only women’s prison in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, with 107 detention places. All forms of penal and measure enforcement are offered; from high security, closed and open custody to work external placement. The women admitted live in residential groups and work in various work areas. The time at JVA Hindelbank is intended to enable them to meet the requirements for reintegration into society, so that after release they can lead a crime-free and self-responsible life.

Your tasks

During your shifts, you take responsibility for managing the residential group with 23 admitted women.
You provide resource-oriented support, take on control tasks as well as conflict and crisis management, and are an authentic counterpart to the admitted women.
In case management, you coordinate and steer the processes of custodial planning within the framework of individual custodial management for the assigned detainees. You work internally and externally in an interdisciplinary network. You organise and lead discussions, write reports for the referring authority, and are entrusted with the professional documentation of cases.
As a key worker, you are the first point of contact for the assigned detainees. You professionally and resource-orientedly support them in psychosocial and social work issues, promote their self-responsibility, and assist them in developing perspectives.
You coordinate cooperation with external organisations and ensure the necessary networking, especially in the context of release preparation.

Your profile

You have a university of applied sciences degree in Social Work or a comparable qualification. Professional experience in the penal system or in a residential setting is an advantage.

With your expertise, you enrich our multiprofessional team and enjoy working in a dynamic environment with clear structures. We expect flexibility, resilience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work in a team.

You have organisational talent and are accustomed to working interdisciplinarily. You are also experienced in using IT applications. Even in complex and challenging situations, you maintain your ability to act, keep an overview, and retain your sense of humour.

You appreciate the freedom of irregular day and weekend shifts and are willing to take on an average of two weekend shifts per month as well as three to four on-call duties per year.

Good and confident German (spoken and written), French (spoken), Spanish, and other languages are an advantage.

About the Office for Penal Enforcement

The Office for Penal Enforcement (AJV) is responsible within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID) for open and closed penal and measure enforcement for adults and juveniles, with around 1000 employees. To fulfil this task, the office has four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the surveillance station at Inselspital, the detention control centre, as well as probation and enforcement services at its disposal.
