Lectureship in Composition for Film, Theatre and Media (60–85 %) with Major Coordination (15 %)
is to be filled in the profile Composition, Theory, Sound Design and Tonmeister at the Department of Music.
We are looking for an artistically distinguished individual with a university degree at Master’s level or an equivalent qualification in Composition for Film, Theatre and Media or a related artistic field. You have a proven, active artistic practice in composition for film, theatre and media. In addition, you bring verifiable experience in university teaching and possess a higher education didactic qualification or are willing to acquire one. Experience in interdisciplinary work and production contexts is expected; experience in developing study programmes and curricula is an advantage. You are familiar with collaboration with partners from film, theatre, media and other artistic disciplines as well as cultural institutions, and you are well networked nationally and internationally in the professional scene. You are characterised by initiative, an independent working style, and strong communication and cooperation skills. You have very good German and English language skills.
Within the scope of the lectureship, you will teach the major subject Composition for Film, Theatre and Media in both Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes through individual and group lessons; this includes composition, arrangement and other subject-specific modules. You will support students in their artistic projects – also in cooperation with film, theatre and media productions within and outside the ZHdK.
With the major coordination (15 %), you will be responsible, in collaboration with the profile management, for the development, quality and profiling of the offerings of the Major Composition for Film, Theatre and Media (FTM) in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, in the PreCollege FTM as well as in the CAS FTM. You will professionally lead the staff assigned to the major, ensure the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching according to the curriculum, and coordinate the courses and timetables in the FTM study area. You will supervise and advise students and coordinate examinations – from dossier assessments and aptitude tests to the specialised module and final examinations, including the composition of examination boards. You will represent the major in professional matters internally and externally and maintain and develop cooperation with other study programmes, departments and external partners. Furthermore, you will drive the strategic development of the major forward.
We offer you an interesting and challenging role in a lively and collegial environment at the Zurich Toni-Areal. We live an inclusive culture and value diversity.
Trial lesson, presentation and professional discussion will take place on 2 December 2026 in Zurich. The trial lesson and presentation are open to the university public.
