About the job
To ensure our services run securely and stably, we require a state-of-the-art and reliable infrastructure. This is operated by us ourselves in Switzerland.
As a System Engineer, you are responsible together with your team for the maintenance, further development, and renewal of our diverse systems such as various storages, networks, and the entire software stack. You understand and help shape the infrastructure with its services and technologies in the foreground and background of Hostpoint alongside your colleagues. This also includes the evaluation, engineering, and introduction of new services and concepts. System security, both in technological ("Security") and operational ("Robustness") terms, is always at the centre of your work. Therefore, monitoring, early detection of threats, as well as responding to and closing security gaps are part of the engineering tasks. You work closely with the System Operations team in this regard.
Your Tasks
- You take care of the renewal and further development of our infrastructure and assist with its maintenance. This includes our web, DB, and mail clusters, our distributed storage systems, the network, and many other components.
- In project teams, you plan, develop, and integrate new services and technologies from conception through launch to operation.
- You share responsibility for the continuous assurance of security. This includes, besides "Engineering for Security," also the assessment and response to threats, security gaps, or incidents.
- You document the systems from the developed concept to actual implementation as well as the necessary disaster and recovery scenarios and integrate them into our comprehensive monitoring.
- Together with the System Operations team, you support and maintain our systems from configuration management through rollout to responding to errors, debugging, and adjusting the (mostly) used open source software.
The enormously broad range of tasks is covered within the teams with focus topics. The areas of responsibility are flexible and are adjusted depending on the project, your strengths, interests, and experience.
Your Profile
- Typically, you have a completed degree in computer science from a university of applied sciences or are a committed and skilled self-made Unix techie.
- You have solid know-how in the areas of Unix and the internet.
- You are curious, have great enthusiasm for technology, and a passion for understanding things.
- You possess a solid understanding of network technologies and have no qualms about application protocols such as SMTP, HTTP, PROXY, NFS, or TLS.
- You have experience working with shells and scripting languages.
- Your good abstraction ability as well as your analytical, independent, and critical thinking with a flair for clean concepts distinguish you.
- You bring a strong sense of responsibility, initiative, and an independent working style.
- Your written and spoken German is everyday secure, and you have good English skills.
Whether you already have many years of experience or are just at the beginning of your career does not matter. We work together and offer support and space for your development.
