The Regional Prison Thun of the Office for the Enforcement of Sentences of the Canton of Bern belongs to the Department of Regional Prisons and serves the enforcement of investigative, security and police custody as well as detention for juveniles in the Canton of Bern. It has around 95 detention places for adults and includes a specialised youth department, where juveniles are supervised and cared for by socio-pedagogical professionals.
Your tasks
- You bear overall responsibility for a safe, efficient and humane prison operation.
- You lead and manage the operational operation in organisational, personnel and security-technical terms in compliance with recognised professional and legal standards.
- You ensure an orderly, lawful and stable enforcement and are responsible for ensuring operational safety.
- As a leader, appointments, qualifications and further development of employees are your responsibility.
- You lead in special and extraordinary situations (e.g. security-critical events, personnel shortages, technical malfunctions).
- You bear overall responsibility for the functionality, renewal and the purpose-bound and coordinated use of all security-technical facilities (including financial and budget responsibility).
- You maintain a networked cooperation with authorities, legal representatives and private individuals, especially with law enforcement authorities, admission authorities and social and church organisations.
- As a member of the management of the Department of Regional Prisons, to which the heads of all regional prisons belong, you also work on projects at department or office level.
Your profile
- Completed vocational training with higher education (FH/HF) in the fields of leadership/management, enforcement of sentences, police or a comparable discipline
- Several years of proven leadership and professional experience in a security-related, operational environment, ideally in the enforcement of sentences or in a public organisation
- Proven experience in leading teams as well as in organising and managing complex operational processes
- High decisiveness and confidence in action, especially in demanding and extraordinary situations
- Strong sense of responsibility as well as a clear understanding of a lawful, safe and humane enforcement
- Resilient, integrative leadership personality with assertiveness, communication skills and pronounced social competence
- Ability to promote, develop and motivate employees in a dynamic environment
- As a leader, you provide on-call duty together with your management team (within one hour at the operation)
- An impeccable reputation is required

About the Office for the Enforcement of Sentences
The Office for the Enforcement of Sentences (AJV) is responsible for open and closed penal and measure enforcement for adults and juveniles within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID) with around 1000 employees. To fulfil this task, the office has four concordat penal institutions, four regional prisons, the surveillance station at Inselspital, the detention control centre as well as probation and enforcement services at its disposal.
