Smart Meter Communication Expert

Intelligent metering systems are a central backbone of modern energy supply. With the widespread introduction of smart meters and the emergence of new energy products on the market, the volume and importance of metering data is growing rapidly. They form the basis for billing, network planning, load forecasts and regulatory requirements. In the "Smart Meter Communication" team, we are responsible for the stable, secure and reliable communication of around 400,000 smart meters. With the introduction of the new G3-Hybrid technology (communication via PLC or now RF), we are creating this position to specifically strengthen our team in the field of communication technology. You will take on a key role in the setup, further development and operation of the G3H communication between meters, gateways and our head-end system (HES). You will develop into an expert in G3-Hybrid technology (PLC and RF) and engage deeply with the relevant communication protocols and standards.

What to expect

• Parameterisation and optimisation of meters, gateways and communication networks for stable and secure operation as well as active participation in the introduction and rollout of the new G3-Hybrid technology
• Analysis of network traffic, for example with Wireshark, as well as conducting laboratory and field tests to investigate communication problems, identify faults and develop sustainable solutions
• Development of own tools and scripts where these sensibly simplify or automate analysis and testing
• Clear and comprehensible documentation of technical concepts, parameterisations and processes
• Close collaboration with internal teams, manufacturers and suppliers as well as exchange and networking within the industry, for example at conferences, trade fairs and specialist events
• Monitoring technological developments, contributing new ideas and deriving possible fields of action for enersuisse
• Independently driving own topics forward as well as active knowledge exchange within the team and enersuisse

What you bring

• University degree (FH or Uni) in electrical engineering, communication technology, computer science or comparable education/experience
• Experience with PLC and/or RF-based communication technologies
• Experience in software development (Python, Shell) to simplify and automate analyses and tests
• Knowledge of communication protocols and standards such as IPv6, 6LoWPAN, DLMS/COSEM, etc. is an advantage
• Experience in analysing network traffic (e.g. Wireshark) as well as understanding of network technology and security (e.g. TLS, PSK) is an advantage
• Analytical, structured and solution-oriented working style
• Enjoyment in learning new technologies and passing on this knowledge
• Communication skills, teamwork and independence Experience in working with external partners, manufacturers or industry committees
• Fluent German and English skills
