Who we are
The Public Prosecutor's Office is responsible for enforcing the state's criminal claims. It conducts the preliminary proceedings, prosecutes offences within the framework of investigations, brings charges if necessary and represents these charges in court. In minor cases, it issues a penal order. Organisationally, the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Bern consists of the Office of the Attorney General, three public prosecutor's offices for the entire canton area (one public prosecutor's office for the prosecution of economic crimes, one public prosecutor's office for special tasks and one public prosecutor's office for juvenile criminal matters), as well as four regional public prosecutor's offices (Berner Jura-Seeland, Emmental-Oberaargau, Bern-Mittelland and Oberland).
