**In a nutshell**
The temporary section S-status is responsible for the registration process of asylum seekers, their allocation to the cantons, and the decision on the granting of protection status. It is also the lead in the operational execution of the expiration and revocation of the S-status.
The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) is responsible for all migration law matters in Switzerland. The asylum directorate of the SEM examines and decides on the asylum applications submitted in Switzerland.
