To strengthen our Risk Management team in Zug, we are looking for an experienced Trade Compliance Manager.
Your responsibilities
- Overview – In relation to applicable global trade compliance matters, your role protects BASF Intertrade AG from strategic, operational, legal, financial and reputational risks. The job profile ranges from strategy and concepts to daily operations and ad-hoc trade assessments, and to governance and respective IT portfolio calibrations. As the main go-to-partner for BASF Intertrade functions you will own the trade compliance topic end-to-end.
- Strategy & Concepts – Enabling flexibility for physical and derivative trading as well as business growth while (a) developing and implementing robust, flexible, innovative and risk-adjusted trade compliance concepts (b) ensuring strict compliance with applicable international laws (c) managing the function in line with corporate requirements and d) managing stakeholders along internal and external interfaces.
- Regulations & Legal Support – Keeping oversight of trade regulation developments as well as understanding nuances of external trade regulations and internal requirements. Subjects to be managed range from global sanction laws and product specific trade control matters to general import and export regulations and customs procedures. Liaising closely with our legal team regarding adequate contract languages and documentations is key (e.g. contract languages, additional documentations).
- Daily Operations – During daily know-your-counterparty (KYC) operations, you will manage initial onboarding campaigns and monitor our active business partners and chartered vessels with the help of our specialized compliance software portfolio. Screenings will include but are not limited to sanction and sustainability compliance matters.
- Consultancy – Conducting thorough assessments of existing activities, individual trades and projects to identify risks or red flags. Support contract negotiations in cooperation with management, business development, trading, mid- and back-office functions and external stakeholders.
- IT & Governance – Ensuring lean, robust and flexible due diligence procedures, controls, reporting and monitoring through an efficient utilization and enhancement of our trade compliance IT suite. You will significantly contribute to make-or-buy-decisions. Respective trainings, guidelines and quality management documentations are to be kept up to date and are to be calibrated as needed in line with changing requirements.
Your profile
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Business Law, Commodity Trading, Banking or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in Trade Compliance, Regulatory Management or Risk Management within commodity trading, banking, insurance or consulting
- Strong understanding of international sanctions, trade regulations and compliance frameworks
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a hands-on approach
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across all organizational levels
- High affinity for digital tools and technologies (Power BI, Power Apps, AI solutions, etc.)
- Fluency in English; German is an advantage
