About the job
The Institute of Chemistry at the University of Zurich consists of over 20 research groups and includes approximately 300 staff and students who conduct intensive research and teaching in the fields of Life Sciences, Energy Research, and other chemical areas.The institute also has a teaching laboratory where apprentices are trained as chemical laboratory technicians with a federal diploma (EFZ) specialising in chemistry. Additionally, external apprentices are trained in regularly held inter-company courses. In collaboration with the head of the teaching laboratory, you will supervise and train the apprentices.
Chemical Laboratory Technician for the Teaching Laboratory
Tasks
- Guidance and supervision of apprentices in the laboratory (practical tasks with a focus on synthesis, analytics, safety, equipment, and logistics)
- Evaluation and discussion of the results of practical tasks with the apprentices
- Conveying theory accompanying practical work
- Correction and discussion of laboratory journals
- Compilation, execution, and evaluation of examinations (theory and practical exams)
- Meetings and instructions individually and in groups
- Enforcement of order in the teaching laboratory (showcase laboratory) as well as monitoring compliance with laboratory rules (safety)
Profile
- Completed training as a chemical laboratory technician EFZ + possibly further education in chemistry
- Completed basic course for vocational trainers desired, familiar with the Swiss education system
- Several years of professional experience
- Solid experience in synthesis and analytical methods
- Initial experience in methodology/didactics and vocational pedagogy
- Very good German and good English skills, both spoken and written
- Good knowledge of common software (MS Office suite and Chemdraw)
- Independent, goal-oriented, forward-thinking, team- and conflict-capable, very reliable
- Role model and motivator for young people; enjoyment in working with apprentices is essential
- Convincing, confident appearance and a assertive personality
