"Execution tailored to measure" is our motto at the Thorberg Correctional Facility. We enforce sanctions on 180 men from over 40 nations in closed custody. Our 140 employees dedicate themselves daily to the reintegration of the incarcerated persons (IPs) into society, thereby making an important contribution to public safety. In eleven workshops, we lead and support the incarcerated persons according to work-educational principles. Our programmes in the areas of work, therapy, education, sport and leisure are consistently aimed at risk reduction and social integration.
Your tasks
- You operate the temporarily established work area "Internal Logistics", which was set up as a temporary forwarding service due to a lift revision.
- You lead and accompany three incarcerated persons in a work-educational manner and provide them with a structured, meaningful and responsible working day.
- You organise and coordinate the internal forwarding orders and ensure their reliable and timely execution.
- You are responsible for the delivery and return of raw and finished materials for the workshops as well as the flow of goods to the residential areas and other operational areas.
- You take on tasks related to the laundry process as well as supply and catering deliveries within the correctional facility, especially over stairs and with suitable stair transport equipment.
- You regularly and fairly assess the work performance of the incarcerated persons and provide constructive oral and written feedback.
- You ensure professional, structured and needs-based warehouse management in the forwarding warehouse.
- You maintain close and solution-oriented cooperation with internal work partners, especially the various work workshops / residential floors and other areas of the correctional facility.
- You ensure compliance with safety, order and operational requirements during the working day.
Your profile
- You hold a Swiss Federal VET Diploma (EFZ) in a craft profession.
- Ideally, you have experience in work education and/or in the correctional system.
- You have experience in guiding, accompanying and qualifying unskilled employees in everyday professional life.
- You are a balanced, reliable and responsible personality characterised by resilience, decisiveness and assertiveness.
- You approach people from different cultural backgrounds and sometimes challenging social situations openly, respectfully and appreciatively.
- Even in hectic and demanding situations, you keep an overview and your sense of humour.
- You enjoy interdisciplinary work, can adopt different perspectives and have an understanding of the concerns and requirements of various professional groups.
- You have a strong service orientation as well as good organisational and logistical skills and work independently, structured and reliably.
- You have very good oral and written German skills; oral knowledge of French and/or English is an advantage.
- You have good digital user skills and are familiar with common IT applications.

About the Office of Correctional Services
The Office of Correctional Services (AJV) is responsible for open and closed penal and measure enforcement for adults and juveniles within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID) with around 1000 employees. To fulfil this task, the office has four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the surveillance station at the Inselspital, the detention control centre as well as probation and enforcement services at its disposal.
